Terry Van Olst
Director, AMI Product Management, Aclara
Terry joined Aclara in December 2015 following the acquisition of the GE meters business. He is currently Director of AMI Product Management, responsible for Aclara’s RF Product Line. Prior to joining Aclara, Terry spent 10 years with GE where he held roles as Engineering Manager, Global Technology Growth Leader for the T&D Smart Metering business and Global Product Line Manager for IEC Smart Meters/AMI System Solutions. He has over 30 years experience in metering, AMR/AMI technologies and software solutions for Electricity, Water, Gas and Heat metering. He has extensive experience in the design, development and manufacture of high volume, highly integrated electronics and embedded firmware products as well as system HES/MDMS software for metering and communications (RF, POTS, Cellular, PLC) products. Terry was an active participated on the AMRA ANSI standards committees for metering tables, physical communications interfaces standards committees, the ANSI X3J19 database standards committees and the international GIS database committee for water/wastewater. Terry has a broad background working directly with utilities and partners from around the world identifying customer problems and defining cost effective system solutions to address their AMI system needs. He also has extensive experience in managing and implementing high volume field deployments of AMR/AMI system solutions. Terry, co-authored an object oriented software development book, and is an inventor on several international metering/AMI patents. He has presented technical papers at various international metering, AMI, and developers’ conferences such as: EEI, AMRA, AWWA, AGA, and CA-World Developers Conference. Prior to joining GE, Terry spent 22 years with another large international metering/AMI company where he held roles of: VP Engineering – Water/Gas, Director Engineering – Global Metering Products, Electronics & Software Engineering Manager, and Sr. Software Engineer. Terry holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management and Computer Science from California University of Pennsylvania, and a MBA from the Katz Graduate School of Business from the University of Pittsburgh. Terry is based near Pittsburgh, PA.
