Cheryl Norton has 30 years of experience in the water industry. She began her career with American Water in 1988 as a microbiology research technician at the company’s Central Laboratory in Belleville, Illinois, and rose through the ranks to become Laboratory director, vice president of Operations for Illinois American Water, president of Kentucky American Water and president of Missouri American Water. Named to her current position in March 2019, she is the principal external contact for American Water in New Jersey, serving approximately 2.7 million people, and leads the company’s Eastern Division states, comprising New York, Virginia and Maryland. Norton has been recognized by AWWA for the most notable contribution to the science of public water supply development and was awarded the Professional Service Award from the Illinois Section AWWA in 2006. She was also named one of the “Most Influential Businesswomen of 2017” by the St. Louis Business Journal.
